Title I Parent Involvement Plan


District Expectations
The West Central School District expects parents to work with the schools in helping their child to learn by involvement in parent/teacher conferences, special parent nights, Title I meetings and informational sessions, completing parent/child activities that are sent home by Title I staff, and encouraging their child in their learning.

District Parental Involvement Plan Required Components
  1. Convene an annual meeting to jointly develop the district parental involvement plan. This meeting will take place in September of each year in conjunction with the Trojan Reading Bowl. An invitation to this meeting will be sent home to the parents/guardians of all Title I students.
  2. Provide the materials, technical assistance, the Title I Director, and other support necessary to help the schools implement effective parental involvement activities in order to improve student academic achievement and school performance.
  3. Build the schools’ and parents’ capacity for strong parental involvement. Activities to involve parents include The Trojan Reading Bowl, Literacy Night, Math and Science Night, open opportunities to volunteer in the classrooms, parent/teacher conferences, Student of the Month luncheons, Birthday Tuesday Luncheons, classroom parties, assemblies, and other activities. Notices to parents go home via email, newsletter, and notes with invitations to the above activities.
  4. The district will coordinate and integrate parental involvement strategies under specific programs if the district qualifies for the programs such as: Head Start, Reading First, Early Reading First, Even Start, Parents as Teachers, Home Instruction Program for Preschool Youngsters (HIPPY), state-run preschool programs, and Title III language instructional programs. Our district provides a kindergarten screening for all students age 5 by September 1st. Many materials are provided to parents in their kindergarten packets given to parents at this screening. KinderKamp is offered for a week each summer.
  5. Involve parents in the activities of Hartford and Humboldt Elementary Schools served under the Title I program. Activities to involve parents include The Trojan Reading Bowl, Literacy Night, Math and Science Night, open opportunities to volunteer in the classrooms, parent/teacher conferences, Student of the Month luncheons, Birthday Tuesday Luncheons, classroom parties, assemblies, and other activities. Notices to parents go home via email, newsletter, and notes with invitations to the above activities.
  6. At the annual meeting with the review of the district plan, the district will conduct an annual evaluation which may include -
a. effectiveness of the parental involvement plan
b. identifying any barriers to lack of parental involvement
  1. modify the plan as necessary.
